A Big Thank You

Thank you to everyone for your support. We did really well in a riding where many people were fearful that the conservatives might win.

Hope everyone keeps on thinking green, whatever party they voted for or belong to.

Peace,

Chris

The weekend that was!

Wow…it has been amazing over the last couple of days. The event at the Law School gave me a chance to share and discuss the Vision Green with a number of professors and students.

The rest of the weekend involved distributing information sheets to as many households as possible in Elmwood-Transcona. We have now covered a good chunk of the riding. We used every piece of paper we printed, all the business cards and even flyers from the last election. No waste…the Green Party way!

I finished the last batch off myself today (didn’t want to bother the other volunteers on thanksgiving)….this morning I met a neat gentleman who is rebuilding his house out of recycled materials…..his house will include a wind-based electricity generator.

I ended near the same spot in the afternoon, when I met two men who were debating politics. One of them needed some paving stones lifted out of his truck….I was happy to prove that some candidates can still do work and lift heavy things!

It was a great campaign and a great experience. Working with the campaign team was amazing. Meeting people and discussing issues with them both at the debates and on the doorsteps of their homes was truly invigorating, many of the people we got to speak with were very interested in a wide range of issues, I am now certain that many of the people in Elmwood-Transcona do care about a lively, sustainable future which is marked by social justice…. Now all that is left is to vote!

I hope everyone votes according to their conscience tomorrow.

Youth Greens out in Force Last Night

Yesterday we had another awesome session of going door to door and connection with people in their homes. It was a really high energy evening.  The green youth were out in full force. Here is a picture of us at a coffee shop near Regent and Lage.

I had several great conversations yesterday evening. I had good long chats with a student nurse about the importance of a holistic approach to health care and with a set of parents on many issues including crime, the way our food distribution systems works and childcare issues.

More and more I am excited about how diverse groups of people are interested in the green principles (see link on this website) and how they might serve as a base for a better future.

I sure hope that sustainable future starts arriving soon!

I am off to teach now at Menno Simmons and then down to U of M for a question and answer period at the Law School before my class in Education this afternoon.

Eating first, toastmasters second!

We started the evening canvassing session at Sal’s on Henderson….we have been there many times over the course of the campaign and the staff is getting to know us. One of the waiters (a gentleman who was not serving us this time around) even came over to grab a brochure so that he could convince his wife to vote for us!

Above is a picture of me with a nip…….for any non-Winnipegers reading this that is a good sandwich not an insult!

The night went great as usual….after it was dark and everyone else was done for the evening Mike (the campaign manager extraordinaire) and I went to poll five which is a set of massive apartments joined by a sky bridge…..after we passed out information in the first building we walked through the bridge and into a common area…..right into the middle of a toastmasters meeting!….we could not stay for long because we had to go to another event but it was good fun…we were invited to join in a “table talk round” in which the table talk chair gave me  two minutes to speak on a topic of her choice….I even received feedback on my speech from an official toastmasters evaluator!  Who knows what tonight’s campaigning will bring?

Final Candidates Forum

Yesterday was the last all-candidates meeting (i.e. debate) that we had. The event was held at Kildonan-East Collegiate. We had four candidates there: this time it was the Christian Heritage Party that did not show….so yes, I have now met Mr. Steen.

Let me tell you, I am confident that if everyone in the riding had seen the debates (especially the last two!) we would be off to Ottawa for sure. Yesterday, by the end of the debate, the students were really into the Green ideas. It was awesome!

After I met up with members of the Green team and we went canvassing near Club Regent. I spoke with many people who were very interested in the Green Party.  Other members of the Green team and I were able to get several signs out to constituents. One gentlemen was even e-mailing me when I knocked on his door.

Less than a week till the big day now, lets keep the Green Machine going…we certainly have momentum on our side!

Peace,

Everything is Going Really Well

Everything is going really well. Canvassing and debating have been real highlights. We are sharing important information about social justice, ecological issues, sustainability, diversity, participatory democracy and non-violence with the residents of Elmwood-Transcona. People who want to talk with us are very receptive….There may yet be a surprise on election day!

Peace,

Chris
